00:08: Creating a matter allows you to organize case information, track activity,
00:13: manage documents, and centralize all matter-related work in one location.
00:19: There are two ways to create a new matter in CARET Legal.
00:21: First, you can use the quick add menu from anywhere within the platform and choose
00:26: new matter.
00:30: Alternatively, you can select the matters tab from the navigation menu
00:34: and click the plus sign on the purple banner to create a new matter.
00:41: From here, complete all required fields which are identified with a colored
00:45: indicator and enter any additional information as needed.
00:57: Don't worry about entering a matter number as this will automatically generate upon
01:01: saving, depending on your firm settings matter options format.
01:06: To view your matter number settings, an administrator can navigate to firm settings,
01:12: matters and contacts,
01:14: and matter options.
01:15: Depending on your firm's workflow, you may also configure billing settings, assign
01:19: permissions, select the responsible attorney, and customize additional matter
01:24: details before saving.
01:27: Be sure to scroll through the entire form to review all available options and
01:31: fields.
01:33: Once all information has been completed, click Create Matter.
01:41: The new matter will now open and will also be available within your matters list
01:46: where you can begin adding events, tasks, notes, documents and billing information
01:51: associated to the case.
01:56: After the matter has been created, some matter details and fields can also be
02:01: adjusted or added later using the Options tab within the matter.

You can now set up new events, upload relevant documents (and share these with your client), create associated tasks, and generate invoices for the case.
