Quick Nav lets you navigate and create records faster using a keyboard shortcut, without reaching for the mouse.

Steps

  1. Press Ctrl+K (Windows) or Cmd+K (Mac) from anywhere in CARET Legal.
  2. Start typing the screen you want to open or the record you want to create.
  3. Select it from the results list.

00:00: This video demonstrates the new Command Palette feature designed to enhance

00:03: navigation and record creation using keyboard shortcuts. It

00:07: highlights how users can quickly access modules and create records without relying

00:12: on a mouse, improving workflow efficiency.

00:15: Navigate to the top-right section of CARET Legal. Here you

00:18: will find a visual cue indicating which keystrokes to use. Since I am using a

00:22: Windows environment,

00:23: the shortcut is Control + K.

00:25: If I were a Mac user, it would be Command + K.

00:28: You can either click this button to open the new modal or simply press

00:32: Control + K on your keyboard to bring it up. Upon

00:36: opening, you will notice two primary

00:38: states: the first, labeled "Open," is designed for

00:42: navigation. You can press the Tab key to switch to the second state, which allows you to

00:46: create new items. Just

00:48: below, you will see a prompt asking, "What do you want to create?"

00:52: If you toggle back to the "Open" state, it will ask,

00:54: "Where do you want to go?"

00:56: This functionality enables navigation without using the mouse, allowing you to move

01:00: through CARET Legal seamlessly. You can utilize the up and down arrow keys on your

01:05: keyboard to scroll through the list of navigation items.

01:07: Additionally, on the right side, there is a corresponding number for each item. By

01:12: using the up and down arrows, you can select your desired item and press Enter or

01:16: Return to be taken directly to that module.

01:18: Alternatively, you can press the corresponding number key on your keyboard;

01:22: for example, if accounting is listed as number four, pressing four will take you

01:27: directly to that module.

01:28: Another useful feature is the ability to start typing. Notice that the cursor is

01:33: blinking

01:33: under the "Where do you want to go?" prompt. If I type "con," for instance, it will

01:38: filter the list to show only matching items. I can then press Enter to navigate to

01:43: contacts, or I can use the corresponding number on my keyboard.

01:46: Let’s go ahead and select it, which will take us directly to contacts.

01:50: If I want to bring this modal back up, I can simply hold down the Control key and

01:54: press K again, which

01:56: will display the new state once more.

02:14: You can now press the Tab button here, and it will take you to a list of items that

02:18: you can create.

02:18: Essentially, we have recreated all the items that appear under the new plus icon

02:24: located in the top right-hand corner of your screen.

02:26: Now, you can access any of the controls listed there via the command palette.

02:31: Additionally, use the up and down arrows on your keyboard to navigate through the

02:35: list, click on the corresponding number, or simply start typing.

02:39: For example, typing "TRUST" will filter the items to show

02:43: only those containing "trust."

02:44: You can then click on the appropriate option, such as "new trust slash retainer payment,"

02:49: and it will be called up.

02:52: This enhancement significantly simplifies navigation allowing you to move through

02:56: the application without relying on your mouse.

03:06: We received feedback during customer calls that they have become reliant on keyboard

03:10: shortcuts in some of the legacy applications.

03:13: We are now enhancing CARETLegal to enable them to accomplish much more without depending on

03:18: their mouse.

03:25: Next, let's highlight a few key points around this amazing feature.

03:29: It's crucial to understand that CARET Legal has specific permissions that determine

03:34: what users can see and do, which may not be accessible to everyone.

03:37: We will replicate this control in both the navigation and record creation aspects, ensuring

03:43: that

03:43: if a user is not authorized to view analytics or accounting, for example, those

03:48: options will be concealed in the navigation.

03:51: In this instance, this user has access to everything, so they would see all of these

03:56: menu items.

03:57: The other thing I wanted to call out is that you will not be allowed to go and

04:01: customize the order in which items appear in the list.

04:03: What we've done here is actually look through our usage information and organize the

04:08: navigation in terms of the most popularly used options within the application. And

04:13: the same thing on the record creation side.

04:16: The video showcases how to navigate and create in CARET Legal using the Command

04:20: Palette,

04:20: emphasizing keyboard shortcuts and permission-based access controls for a

04:25: streamlined user experience.
