Can Matter Permissions be Revoked?

  • Updated

Yes, they can easily be revoked from the Matters section or Firm Settings.

From the Matters section

For individual users:

  1. Navigate to the Matters section and select the Matter No to open the Matter details.

  2. Select the Options tab and click 'Set Permissions for this Matter' under the Matter Options to display a Permissions dialog.

  3. Click on "x" to the left of the name you want to remove from the Users/Groups section. Permissions.png

Once the individual has been removed, he or she will not be able to see any information related to the Matter (events, notes, documents, etc).

From Firm Settings

If you use "User Groups" to assign permissions to Matters, you need to remove the user from the group in Firm Settings.

  1. Select Firm Settings from the drop-down menu beside your avatar.

  2. Click Firm Options in the menu bar and select Users & Groups from the expanded menu.

  3. Click on the pencil icon to edit and select the next to their name.

Visibility

Once the permission "Everyone" is changed to "Custom", all users not explicitly named or in a Permission group listed will not be able to view the Matter. When permissions have been revoked from a matter, users may still be able to see the name of the matter in the system, but clicking into the matter details will send the user back to the dashboard.

If a staff member has left the firm, we highly recommend that you deactivate this account instead of revoking access to specific Matters. This account should not be reassigned to a replacement. Once an account is deactivated, you will still be able to see the various tasks that were completed, documents uploaded and refer back to past events.
