CARET Capture uses AI to capture your billable activity — both inside CARET Legal and in your Chrome or Edge browser — and turns it into a ready-to-approve list, so you stop losing billable time to delayed or forgotten entries.
Steps to get started
- Enable the Automated Timekeeping browser extension for Chrome or Edge.
- Continue working in CARET Legal as usual — activity capture happens passively in the background.
- At the end of each day (or anytime), open your Automated Timekeeping dashboard to see your captured, unbilled activity.
- Review each entry. CARET's AI has already suggested the matching matter and drafted a professional narrative for you.
Tip: Nothing becomes a time entry until you review and approve it — every suggestion is editable and reversible.
Installing the Extension
- Open this link: Google Chrome Store Listing
- Click Add to Chrome, then confirm by clicking Add extension in the pop-up.
- Pin the extension: click the puzzle-piece icon in Chrome’s toolbar, then the pin icon next to AI Timekeeping so it stays visible.
- Click the extension icon to open it.
Requires Google Chrome on desktop. (Edge support is documented separately.)
Signing In
Sign in with your existing Caret Legal login credentials — the same username and password you use for Caret. Ensure both boxes for “api.read” and “api.write” are checked.
How It Works
- Tracks only approved sites. Activity is captured exclusively on user-approved websites. Everything else you browse is ignored.
- 30-second minimum. Time on a domain must reach 30 seconds before it counts. A domain and its sub-pages count together — e.g. uspto.gov and uspto.gov/filings both contribute to the same 30-second threshold. Anything under 30 seconds is discarded and never sent to Caret.
- Sessions are bundled. Browsing across approved domains within 2 minutes of the previous activity ending is grouped into a single billable activity, so related research isn’t split into dozens of fragments.
- Captures domain names only. The extension records which approved sites you visited - not page content, keystrokes, or what you typed or read.

Pause anytime. Click Pause in the extension to stop all tracking. While paused, no data is captured at all. Resume when you’re ready.
