What is the Hierarchy of Billing Rates?

  • Updated

In CARET Legal there are five levels within the rate hierarchy that define what rate will be selected.

  1. Default User Rate
  2. Matter Hourly Rate
  3. Rate Card
  4. Matter User Rate
  5. Time Entry

Default User Rate

  1. Select My Settings from the drop-down menu beside your avatar to display the User Settings modal.

    • When a Rate Card is applied to a Matter the user's rate will be determined based on the Rate Card. This overrides the Matter Hourly Rate.

If a user is not listed on the Rate Card, the hourly rate or their default rate will be used, unless they have a specified Matter User Rate.

Matter User Rate

  1. Navigate to the Matters section and select a Matter No to open the Matter details.
  2. Click the Options tab and scroll down to User Rates.
  3. Click + to add a new row.
  4. Select a User from the drop-down list and enter a Rate, then select the checkbox to Save.

This overrides any other rates on the Matter.

Time Entry

  1. Click New Time Entry from the Quick Add menu or navigate to the Time section and select + in the action bar to display the New Time Entry modal.

  2. Enter or select an option from the drop-down lists to complete the fields.
